I have a question for you! Learning Lenormand can be challenging, confusing, and overwhelming. There are many opinions on Lenormand (meanings, combinations, how to read the cards, etc.), but there aren't a lot of resources, especially in print.
So what is your biggest struggle in learning Lenormand?
I would love to hear your answers, so please let me know in the comments below.
I find the hardest part to learn in lenormand is the combination of cards, the order they come in etc.
Thanks Lori! This article might answer your questions as it covers the combination, order, etc.: How to Read Lenormand Card Combinations I can see about writing another article if you have more questions after reading it.
Great, thank you:)
Card combinations – sometimes I instantly get what they’re saying, sometimes it takes me a whole day.
Thanks Jessica! Have you read this article: How to Read Lenormand Card Combinations? I can write more on combinations, but it might be a good place to start.
Blending the two cards into one word or meaning is the hardest part for me. Then when I use the blended meanings from a book it is confusing to make a sentence from it. But if I just look at the cards I can see what it is trying to tell me but that is like reading tarot cards and this is not tarot.
Thanks Christina! One thing that might help you is to treat what you’re finding in books as examples of possible combination meanings. No book contains every possible meaning as Lenormand is very fluid based upon the question being asked, etc. The meanings from a book might be confusing because they aren’t the right one for the topic at hand.
I struggle with the Bear card, sometimes the fox card.
I also try to go with my gut on when a card is negative vs. positive; example, snake often has negative connotation ;however, to me it also means transformation, the shedding of old skin. Is there anything to help with that?
Starting to work on GTs and any/all information is greatly appreciated.
PS – Love this blog and always make time to read it.
Thanks Lynda! Here’s some additional information on the Bear: Understanding Lenormand Money Cards
Positive vs. Negative has to do with the question asked, where the card falls in the spread, and the cards around it. A lot of it is practice and learning how to read cards in combination and according to where they fall.
You can find links to different articles on reading GTs here: What is the Lenormand Grand Tableau? I haven’t covered all the ways to read a GT, but I can write more articles on it.
The combination of the cards to form a fluid
interpretation, especially when the garden, mice, coffin, mice, fox and book are included.
Thanks Cecillia!
At the moment.. my confusion comes from wondering if the first card is the subject and the following cards create the sentence (the way i’ve been doing it mostly)….
–OR–
Is the centre card the subject, and the cards surrounding it describe it (3 to 5 cards). So many people do it that way. too..
I have come across both of these styles, and they are pulling me in different directions.
And then there is the ‘read the cards in every which-way direction’ (used in 9 card spread), creating a multitude of answers! SO confusing!
Do i just pick ONE way, and stick to it? That would certainly make things more simple!
Amber – Just pick one way and stick to it. When you feel you have it mastered, you can try other ways of reading the cards.
I have this same problem. Very confusing. I was reading it like a sentence, sort of like past present future tarot spread with combined card meanings. With Last card as most important and outcome.
Then read from multiple sources to read the middle card with most importance. With side cards just modifying meaning of middle card.
I have trouble with five card draws – telling the story and putting it all together.
Thanks!
Sue
Thanks Sue! This article might help you as it explains how to tell the story and put it all together: How to Read Lenormand 5 Card Spreads
Thanks everyone for all of your comments! You’ve really helped me to know what topics to cover to help you learn Lenormand. If more come up, feel free to leave more comments. I love hearing from you!
Hello Anne,
I have a question, what does it mean when the last card out is the lady, i didnt ask a question i just let them come.
thankyou
Joan
Hi Anne, I forgot to say that i was referring to the GT.
thanks Joan
That’s an article on its own as it tells you many things, including that it’s a difficult time.
Thank you Anne, so does that mean that the difficult time is not revealed as yet then?
with thanks
Joan
It’s revealed. You can see what it is in the other cards.
Thank you very much Anne, so I will now look at the future cards above the woman and that should reveal what is coming.
I am loving Cafe Lenormand site.
The cards above the Woman are the present. The future would be to the right in a GT.
Here’s a new article that explains a lot of what goes into reading a GT when the significator is the last card: Reading Significators in a Grand Tableau
Hi Anne,
My biggest challenge is the timing. Apart from the seasons, nothing is right.
The things that I see do happens, but never in the time frame I am putting them in !
Very frustrating! And of course, people think that your reading is wrong 🙁
Hi Myriam, Timing can be rough, but you’re doing a pretty good job if you’re getting the seasons right. That’s better than many people! I explain how I do timing spreads here: Lenormand Timing Spreads
What I find confusing is when I should interpret other cards that can also indicate a person as a person or stick to its possible meanings. For example, how do I tell if the bear represents the mother of the querent or if it concerns the querent’s finances?
Thank you for all the articles, they have been of great help as I am very new to Lenormand
Thanks vivian! I’ll add it my list for upcoming articles.
