It’s time for an awesome reader question on the Lenormand Scythe.
Awesome reader asks: “Can you tell us more about the Lenormand Scythe? How do you know which way is cutting or harvesting?”
About the Lenormand Scythe
The Scythe announces danger. It is regarded as one of the more negative Lenormand cards.
Look at the cards surrounding the Scythe to tell you where the danger is coming from so that you aren’t caught unprepared.
Keep a close and careful eye on the cards following the Scythe.
The Scythe might indicate a trip will be cancelled, a relationship will end, or surgery will be necessary.
Always take caution to prevent any accidents: car accidents, bicycle accidents, sports-related injuries, or even out-of-the-norm accidents, such as falling down the stairs.
However, remember that primarily the Scythe is a sign of danger nearby and sudden decisions (often severe, painful and permanent). It’s a warning to exercise caution so that you can avoid or minimize any damage or harm.
The danger can be avoided if positive cards are nearby.
The Direction the Scythe Faces
Not all readers look at the direction of the image on the card to tell them the meaning of the Scythe, so it’s okay if you don’t use this technique. You can simply follow the traditional meaning of the Scythe cutting what is after it.
If you choose to use the direction that the Scythe is facing to tell you what will be cut or harvested:
If the point of the blade faces to the left: the Scythe will cut or negatively effect whatever is before it
If the point of the blade faces to the right: the Scythe will cut or negatively effect whatever is after it
If the handle of the Scythe is on the left: the Scythe will harvest or gather whatever is before it
If the handle of the Scythe is on the right: the Scythe will harvest or gather whatever is after it
Anne, I appreciate so much you writing this Article about the Scythe. You are so nice! Thanks… Liz
You’re welcome!
Wow! Keep it up Anne! You have a great blog here, and it’s helping me sooo
much. Thank you.
I’m glad I could help!
Can’t the scythe simply mean harvest or cutting something. I did a simple card spread and pulled scythe and bouquet right before I was about to go out and cut some flowers for my table? Does its meaning have to be so harsh all the time?
It can absolutely mean something as simple as cutting flowers in a daily spread which is what I suspect you did. All cards tend to take a more insignificant meaning in daily spreads. You might want to look at the list of Scythe meanings for when you’re doing such simple spreads. However, in most spreads, particularly GTs, the Scythe’s meaning will usually be negative. It isn’t meant to be a nice card.
hello Anne. I hope I didn’t come across as contrary or abrupt in anyway in my last comment, I’m just trying to grasp certain ideas. I really appreciate your blog it’s lovely and have made some great discoveries from it so thank you.
You were fine. I’m glad you’re enjoying my site.
Anne I have been doing readings for many years but didn’t know Scythe had such other meanings. Thank you very much dear.
Dear Sonia – I’m so glad you found it helpful!
